A little is normal. You are probably running rich. What is your a/f?

Not just my tailpipes but my rear bumper too gets a lot of carbon from a short drive. A little rich is better than running lean..

911 2,
There is no ECU in our cars. It's CIS.

so does that mean the mixture is not set just for idle but also set for when driving my co was set at 3% at idle i had it put down to 0.4% as thats what all the reputable companies say it should be so there is a possibility i could be running weak

911 2,

if your car has mods, just leave it at 3% CO..Better to run a little rich than lean..

the reason i turned it dowhn as i was told the 965 co readings only apply to the idle once driving it is all ecu controlled and cant be adjusted
is it possible i am at least 30llb/ft down because i am only running 0.4%co rather than 3.0% or would this not make that much of a difference

Tuning using the mixture **** makes a difference.
Basically AFR is regulated at non full throttle operation with the help of a o2 sensor.
So for "normal driving" (abnormal for most of the guys here..) AFR is regulated.

At full throttle the "system" (it's a black box under the driver seat) will run at 50% duty cycle disregarding any feedback from the o2 sensor. You are able to control the AFR using the mixture **** (to some extent) at full throttle operation.

If you are worried about your AFR have the car checked on a dyno or get some kind of AFR gauge.
I use a gauge (and data logging unit) from www.zeitronix.com makes me sleep better at night.
If you don't have any mods and your car is running fine there isn't much reason to worry.

When I tuned my AFR (didn't know the power before nor after) the clutch started to slip, an indication that power went up.
I know people who claim the gained 10% increase by getting their AFR just right.

i have headers exhaust cone filter and 1 bar spring what is the idle co mixture setting if your clutch started to slip thats a big increase in power
as you probably know my car on the dyno only produced 402nm of torque thats at least 48nm on standard figures and i have the extra mods could i gain another 60nm or 35llb/ft by getting the mixtures correct
could you please explain what exactly duty cycle is

Two suggestions:
(1) get you car on the dyno and get some accurate information. No sense guessing with these engines.
(2) get used to the soot and stop polishing - it's hopeless - whether you are rich or lean, there will always be deposits. I would rather have soot than white deposits.

911 2,
with your mods, just leave the CO at 3% and you should be pretty safe. However if you want to have it fine tuned than put it on the dyno. However at this stage, it will hardly make a difference. I would just leave it at 3% co and enjoy the car.
