Default Wheel Offsets

Can some one explain to me how the offset system works. i.e. How I can work out what spacer I would need, if I get a slightly different offset wheel (or if they will stick out too much)?

I have a set of hollow spoke 993tt wheels available to me and I want to check they'll fit. The offsets for these wheels are:
Fronts 8*18" ET52
Rear 10*18"ET42

My car is a EURO 3.3 T2

The fronts will fit perfectly, but the rears will stick out too far. The greater the offset, the more the wheel moves inward toward the car's centerline. For the C2 Turbo, a 10X18 rear wheel should have an offset of 61mm. You could use a larger offset wheel (>61mm) with spacers to move the wheel back out, but you can't do the reverse.

Here's a link http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html just type in your current offset and it will tell you if you need spacers or if the wheel will stick out to far!

Cheers Andrew

Great, thanks guys. Looks like the above wheels wont do. I have a access to a set of Magnesium BBS as well which have the correct offset for the T2 so I think i'll go with those.
