Pretty good list of mods. I'll bet it runs like a scalded cat, with the custom gearing allowing you to stay on boost more of the time.

One thing puzzles me, though: If this is Phase 1, what possibly could you do for Phase 2? A Saturn Rocket Booster, maybe?

Congrats.

I suppose Phase 2 could be:
* Change to 964 C2 trailing arms to get bigger wheels underneath the rear
* New P&C
* EFI

Sorry I forgot to ask, how about your fueling? What you do for that?

I am running about 0.8 bar boost. Fueling is CIS with the Andial Enrichment. The car had a leakdown and everything looked good at 72K miles. I'll run the engine until it dies, then go to a 3.4 P&C with EFI - I just don't want that to happen too soon. With the changes in the gear box, the car is nicely set up for track. Once I feel I have mastered the current configuration on the track, I'll start thinking about upgrades to engine.

For now, I have plenty of HP.

Jeffrey,

Whats percentage CO are you running and how many clicks up on the Andial FEC? Just curious.

Gears 2-5 were changed to close ratio (see above), a 60/40 locking differential was installed, 2-5 steel synchros, short shift, aluminum billet shifter, and RS clutch, pressure plate, etc.

The gearbox is very sweet. Top speed is now down to about 160 and running 80mph at 3400 rpm in 5th gear. No problem staying on boost and the acceleration is outstanding.

I am having a problem now with overboost. The Tial with a 1 bar spring produces 1.2+. I am not sure how others resolved this, but if I remember correctly it came down to the wastegate pipe being too restrictive.

How come you decreased the lockup on decel to only 40%?

Hmm, I will ask the similar but different question, why the 60% on acceleration? Were you getting excessive wheelspin? I'm not sure I'd want this much understeer inducer on corner exit.

Sorry...just the opposite: 40% under accel / 60% under decel

CO is set around 3% at idle. Three clicks on the Andial, but I am not sure it even does anything.

Your overboost is probably caused by your header design. The union where the wastegate pipe meets the collector is a very poor design on most aftermarket headers. I had mine modified because I was experiencing the same problem you describe. Pics are here: www.lufteknic.com/965

Link is actually http://www.lufteknic.com/965.html

So you opened up the pipe that is ahead of the wastegate? I'm not sure how you enlarged it.

With a one bar spring, I am up around 21psi and it hold there. The Tial uses two springs, so the shop removed one and the boost is now 15psi, but I don't think you can remove one spring and get it to function properly - I sense it is leaking boost as it builds toward the 15 psi.

I added a 2" section of pipe from the collector to about halfway to the wastegate and changed the angle of the wastegate pipe at the intersection of the collector. I would hit the overboost protection prior to this mod. Now, it stays pegged at .85 bar.
