Question Whistling from a/c fan

Hey guys,

'92 Turbo: After about 10 minutes of running my A/C, I am getting a chttering
whistling sound coming from the center vent, or maybe from the fan itself...
Usually happens at fan speed 2 and disappears at lower and hight settings...
Anyone experience this? Any quick fix?

I have the same problem but haven't fixed it, search for this on the 964 board, it's common problem.

David, how do you like your PSS9 ?
Do you track your car much ?

David,
if you are certain the sound is coming from around the centre vent area, then it must be the little fan at the back of the HVAC contol unit - it can be replaced lubricated with WD40 or replaced for about UK£80.

Best regards

David, use Blaupunkt head unit removal tools and remove the HVAC head unit - as the little fan is at the back, you don't have any access to it from the front.

Mine did this also for a few months, Fan setting #2 only. It also spewed a bunch of crud (looked like paper covering or lining from the vent walls, not sure) onto the dash for a short time. I vacuumed the vents with a small hose attachment and it stopped making the noise. Otherwise it requires lubrication like Emilios said.

JBH had this problem and I sent him the manual info on removal of the fan for lubrication. I don't know f he ever resolved it.

Sorry,

I forgot who I sent it to, and even more sorry to hear that the unit died. I don't believe you can get replacement units but I do believe the 993 units are interchangeable.
