Question Dyno Results

Hello Everyone

I took my car in for a Dyno run last week, and asked for the logged data as well as the graphs.

Here are the figures I received. I have to be honest - I'm not sure what every column means - perhaps someone could comment?

I shoved all of the figured into a spreadsheet and then graphed them as below...

Wouldn't mind some feedback...

Your car must be stock. I have almost the same data
as yours before any mods to my car.

Kevin,

Speed - speed during the dyno run...looks like 4th gear to me
RPM - engine rpm
Power - rear wheel horsepower
FW Power - calculated or estimated horespower at the flywheel. Must use some correction factor that was input
Tractive - looks like it is the axle torque, but I'm not positive
Temp - the dyno's weather station temp during the run. Used for correction to SAE HP
Air/Fuel - Air Fuel ratio for gasoline
Lambda - afr in generic terms a lambda value of 1 = 14.7:1 afr for gasoline
vac/boost - boost level during the run

It looks like your turbo is too small for your application, you can see it steadily fall off as the RPM goes up. If you were able to measure the intake temps, you'd see them climbing as the compressor starts to move off it's efficiency island.

Assuming the dyno conditions provided proper cooling so you got realistic numbers, you can lean out the car about 1 full AFR point and pick up some HP.

Isn't the boost loss characteristic of the K27 turbo? That is why Stephen is pushing the new HF K27, appears to blow strong all the way to redline.

You've managed to convince me about the K27HF Anthony, I am waiting for Stephen too send me one as well - can't wait to install it!

Best regards

I am sure you will love it. Considering the price of some of the other mods you will find it is money well spent.

BTW that battery finished charging yet? Looking forward to some pics of the new spoiler and changes you made.

Anthony,

Please do accept my sincere apologies for the delay of shooting/posting the pics but I've been really really busy with work lately and by the time I get home it is already too dark. But I promise I will take photos and post them as soon as possible.

Best regards

Thanks for the replies everyone...

Just for clarity... the Dyno was done in 3rd gear I believe, and yes the car is stock.

I'm quite interested in the Turbo replacement... I must have missed the post... can someone send to me the data and where I can get more info please?

Cheers...

It was 4th gear since 3rd gear in a G50/52 tops out somewhere around 125 or so. It also looks like you used a Dyno Dynamics dyno which is a great dyno.

You can get the K27HF from Stephen at Imagine Auto 913-310-9927. As mentioned before, it will continue to flow where the standard K27 falls off. This is particularly noticable in you 3.6l engine which requires more airflow.

Looks like stock boost (10 psi ~ .7 bar). I would have thought the stock K27 could handle this???

Kevin, I'm running a stock motor but with headers (no cat...just muffler) and .8 bar boost. As a point of reference, I made 313 HP at the wheels. A friend of mine w/ a 91 Turbo dyno'd the same day expect he was all stock but with a 1 bar spring. He made 300 HP at the wheels. The BIG difference was in torque. At 3000 RPM I had over 100 more ft/lbs.

Here's the run...

rpm torque power
2400 176 80
2500 191 90
2600 207 102
2700 222 114

Jeff,

Don't forget to factor in airflow. The 3.6l requires more airflow than does the 3.3l so the turbo will need to be larger.

Geoffrey,

Not sure if you have taken into account that figures in the Speed column are in KPH not MPH... the guy at PCM told be it was definitely 3rd gear?

My third gear tops out at somewhere around 170 KPH (I think...)

Also, my car is the 3.3 ltr - 91 Turbo. There may be some confusion...

Jeff, thanks for the figures... wow! Interested in whether I can simply start by replacing nothing but the boost spring? I have the stock spring at the moment... what do I get moving to .8 or 1bar spring - and does it harm the engine in any way?

Thanks again!!

Yup, I missed the KPH on the sheet. Sorry about that.
