Default 3.3 964 turbo mixures

I have a 1991 964 turbo mods are stainless Hayward and scott exhaust, knn cone filter and 1 bar boost spring
the car was running 3% mixture at idle then put down to 1%
the car pops and throws flames at the 1% mixture
is it ok to drive at 1%. I am diffreret opinions as to this is a weak mixture hence th epops burbling ad flames and other s say it is a strong overfuelling mixture
ayone please shed some light on this and what % the mixture should be at

Idle mixture has no effect on boost enrichment. That is handled by the warm-up regulator.
Idle mixture is only important in as much as if it gets too lean, your car won't start (go ahead and ask me how I know ).
My car is usually set to 14.5:1 at idle but I couldn't correlate that with % CO as I've never checked it that way.
I'd keep it set somewhere around 3% (which is where I used to set my 3.0 SC).

The car starts fine at 1% just didnt want to risk melting a piston at 1% maybe a good idea to install a afr gauge

You won't melt a piston at idle. The engine is under no load at idle. That's also the reason that you can set enrichment at cruise to stoic and not damage the engine.
Depending on where you live, 1% might be too lean in cold weather.
Running lean under boost is a different story altogether.
If your engine is stock and everything is set to factory spec, you won't need a AFR gauge. Besides, you won't have time to look at it when your accelerating anyway.

Starting I have no problem
In the warm weather if engine cuts out from idle it can sometimes be a little difficult to start, feels like it has over flooded with fuel
generally no problem starting or driving but idle can be a little low

The wur gets heat soaked and leans out the mixture, hence the low idle.
If you have hard hot starting, that indicated the fuel accumulator is bad.

idle being low only happened when i adjusted the co to 1% i think i adjusted it a little to low the warm start happened after this and only happens occassionally
i will icrease the idle slightly, what should it be and will leave co at 1% if his is ok for driving as it sounds nice ie pops and burbles at 1%
