Default Normal Oil Consumption???

Ok, I found the car and negotiated a price (based on passing a PPI) on a 1991 C2, 34k mile one owner car. It is Polar silver with a black interior 100% stock. Tuesday it goes in for a PPI, I have had a hell of a time finding a Porsche specialist in his area and I have had to settle for a German shop that does some Porsches but I wouldn't call them Porsche experts. They swear they can do a full check including a compression and a cold leak down test. I am not thrilled at this but at the moment I think I kind of stuck with it, he is across the coast from me.

Earlier I asked the owner about any oil leaks and he swears it has never leaked a drop. Today I realized I had never asked him about oil consumption and he just informed me he might have to add as much as a 1 - 1 1/2 quarts between oil changes. I wasn't expecting this. Is this high or fairly normal? To a Porsche neophyte this seems high.

Appreciate your input, I am pretty excited about this car and I am hoping everything checks out before I fly out there to pick it up and drive it across country.

traveller: That is no problem assuming at least 3k miles between oil changes.

That sounds fine. My car consumes approx. 1 qt/thousand miles and I track it a couple times per month (weather permitting). Overall, my car is in excellent condition.

Thanks Claude and Joey for your input. After looking more closely at past post I can see that oil consumption is all over the board for one of these.

Default I DUNNO...

"...doesn't leak a drop..."? You had better peek into the engine bay, to make sure it has a Porsche engine in it! BTW- I realize I am guilty of bragging but I doubt my engine uses more than 1/2 qt in 3K miles. But, the amount you have been quoted is within normal limits. Have fun! (BTW have you joined the PCA yet? If not I strongly suggest you consider it)

Yeah, we will see after the PPI and I fly out to take a look at it if it has ever leaked. No, I haven't joined PCA yet but I plan to as soon I get her home. Thanks for the feed back.
