A color change like they did sucks you could see in the wheel wells where it looked like they used a rattle can. You could see red showing thru the Black Trying to fix a simailar paint job is a pain I know I have been at it for a year
The final product from a drone 20 feet away looked GREAT. But as everyone observes above, someone is going to be pretty unhappy when they tear out the "track carpets" and literally see red.
Did ANYBODY get ANYTHING out of the tight-shot interviews with the big-talking honcho (age 29) or his demanding-but-deep-pocketed Sprockets friend?
I did enjoy the "this is a Soccer Mom Porsche" comment from the slack-jawed yokel they threw into the mix about halfway in. as if.
3. Unburdened by any dyno or other factual proof, repeated claims were made that swapping the stock exhaust for a Fabspeed dual exhaust, removing the heat exchanger and adding a magic chip added 50 hp to an otherwise untouched stock engine. Hmm.
I had to rewind it 3 times to see if he was saying 15 or 50. I concluded he said 50....but I call Bull****!
Another 964 ruined... Let's spend thousands to make the car worth less, brilliant! There were also a couple of comments made during the program that were completely false. I have already forgotten what they were.
I watched "Speed is the New Black" on the Velocity channel a moment ago, featuring a 1990 C2 that was painted blue, had its carpets and seats replaced, and had a dual exhaust added.
For some reason the producers chose to pretend that these modifications would send Rob Dickinson into paroxyms of envy and soul-searching.
A few observations:
1. Neither the producers nor the talent spent a minute on this forum before rolling tape.
2. Viewers like me experienced more location shots of the St. Louis Arch and the workshop where the next Singer-beater was being "made" than they saw detail shots of the car itself.
3. Unburdened by any dyno or other factual proof, repeated claims were made that swapping the stock exhaust for a Fabspeed dual exhaust, removing the heat exchanger and adding a magic chip added 50 hp to an otherwise untouched stock engine. Hmm.
4. The smug assertion that removing some soundproofing and the heavy stock seats saved weight was immediately belied by adding steel half-cage and a City-of-Compton 20 speaker stereo.
5. Oh, and they painted a Hennessey Cadillac during the same episode and also replaced its exhaust.
6. I haven't mentioned a thing about the I-just-wasted-an-hour-of-my-life interviews attempting to highlight the drama of the Sprocket's upcoming track day and the pressure it put on the Speed is the New Black team.
7. Etc., etc.
Was anyone else this disappointed?
I guess I won't be watching this. Thx for the heads up.
Although I can say with objective proof that my 93 C2 did jump to 246RWHP or nearly a 50 BHP increase using a 15% drivetrain loss by adding a 100cell cat, magnaflow muffler, cup air box and a custom chip. I do have the charts to prove it. Question is where is the power gained assuming it is a real number. I have seen similar numbers obtained using a full custom exhaust but all the power was pushed up high in the RPM range and was only good for track use.
A full Fabspeed exhaust system and Steve Wong Chip can net you around 25-35hp depending on the combination of products. I watched that episode myself, not sure where they got that data from but it wouldn't be accurate to expect 50hp out of exhaust and a chip on an air cooled N/A Porsche.
Am I imagining things, or did they pull the heat exchangers, put headers on and keep all the heater blower, in the engine bay on the car ? Why would one want to do that?
The whole thing was just too contrived, there was no real content there, it was just network filler....
