Tail/Deck Lid Question
I may be able to get a used Carrera tail/deck Lid from a 1984 Carrera. Will I be able to put this tail/deck lid on my 1991 911 C2 without any issues. I am hoping I can remove the factory deck lid I have now and replace it with this 84 Carrera tail/deck lid. Thanks in advance.

Iborreol, being a 964 board, some Guru My have the info you seek. Perhaps a post on the 911, or Upgrade/Mods boards will be of more help.
Good luck

You may want to check pricing and options from some after market suppliers buying a used tail and deck lid.
I just bought a new deck lid and RS America tail from MA Shaw for less than what folk wanted for a used OEM tail (with or without deck lid).

I have no idea why anyone would want to do this however the answer is;
You will have issues. The hinges are different, they are spaced differently. This means moving the gas struts and there is nowhere to put them any further in. You can more easily install a 964 on a Carrera 3.2 than the other way around.
I am actually not sure if they are even the same size.

PS: I Only know about this because I have helped Carrera 3.2 owners with this.

have a look at 964 turbo lids ..................
you will find they are 930turbo lids with additional brackets to make fit .
these are a porschje part but asa far as i know no longer available .
i have one of a 965 at my workshop , but it has no part number on it .
i phoned 9m , and they told me no longer available by porsche , but easy to make your own with a steel sheet bent to 90 degreees (same as porsche did )
i can perhaps borrow a camera to take pictures tommorrow .
if you have a look at the rsr in latest 911+pork world , ytou can just about see the porsche brackets fitted to the side of the original 964 hinges .

Here is picture of an original Porsche bracket (Gold Cadmium plate in photo) used to adapt the early decklid to the 964 chassis.
I think you can only get them new, attached to a complete hinge strut for an RS America or 965 Turbo. The later 964 hinge strut has the holes drilled for the transverse screws already, so strut can be left in car and the bracket and screws transfered from a new strut to it.

The bracket comes as *part* of the whole Turbo hinge strut. That is to say, included as well is the white tubular portion and white flange that the cadmium plated bracket is bolted to . You will have to order the entire combination of parts and remove what you need. I'm sure they are available in England- a little pricey at around $120 each in USA as I recall.
Their is no separate part number for just the bracket you want, at least I could not find it. I was told that there was a retrofit kit for installing a wing that is NLA that included the part, but I could not find a part number for the kit to check if their was some NOS some where.
The part numbers are for complete struts are:
965.512.019.00 Left
965.512.020.00 Right

I just checked my invoices and the part numbers I gave you are what I ordered. The list price was $125.67 USD.
Here is a picture of what I had left after removing the bracket.
The part pictured came with 2 part number stickers, one for the Turbo part and also a 964.512.023.02 sticker for the normal C2 hinge without the bracket that the Turbo part is based on. Obviously someone at the factory is just picking up a normal hinge strut, attaching the Turbo bracket and another part sticker. If one could find how to just get the bracket out of Porsche!!!!

Three Wheelin'
Your timing couldn't be better on this subject. I have a freshly painted tail to mount on my '90 & I have run into the same problems. Now I know the solution. Thanks guys!
