Default Removing Stubborn Valve Covers

I've got everything cleared away and have removed all the nuts holding the valve covers on and the covers will not budge. I don't want to use too much brute force for fear or warping or marring a surface that needs a good seal.

Any advise for removing covers that don't want to budge?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

I tapped mine with a rubber mallet from the side. Also put my fingers into the spark plug holes and gave it a good tug. Just try to show some patience, they will come off.

As a last resort try mallet + pulling + foul language. That should be the clincher.

Regards,

Geo

Thanks Geo,
I tried the pulling + foul language already, hopefully the mallet was the missing ingredient!

That can't be it, I upgraded my foul language while removing the catalytic converter! I now have the ultimate toolbox of foul language...

Jeff

Porsche issued a Technical Bulletin on this. I think it was TBf%$£it.

It clearly specifies the appropriate, updated foul language to use when removing valve covers.

I know this sounds obvious, but make sure you are using METRIC foul language - the IMPERIAL swear words don't quite work!

PS

Just smash the f^&8ing Sh*& out of those litlle Fu&^ers with the F*&king rubber mallet!

How stupid of me!
I was using lots of "Fornicating Under Consent of the King" which is obviously Imperial.

Time to change to something that begins with Stuttgart...

Thanks Arjan, I have been reading your posts quite carefully and they have been very helpful. I'll have more questions for you in the near future like some additional details on how you replaced the oil sending unit with the cut off 22mm wrench! I've got lots of oil leaks and I'm sure that is one of the areas that is causing me problems.
