Default Pricing Help..RS America

Hey Guys,

Im looking at a couple of RS Americas on the market.

The prices seem all over the place. How much are clean original paint non tracked RS America's with 45,000
miles going for?
What should I pay realistically in the market today?

Thx for any help.

I'll play, $95-120k depending on options (or lack of) and maintenance documentation.

Here is a recent data point on a RSA that actually sold at auction: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/199...he-rs-america/

More miles than what you are looking at, but it looks like a good example with some light cosmetic paintwork.

Do you think that number applies for dealers? Some of the cars I looked at had asking prices above 120K.

I think the market might be slightly cooling off for the air-cooled cars. Seems like dealers are still holding their premium pricing. But remember ask and sale price are two, sometimes drastically different numbers. It's always nice to check some auctions to get some real transaction prices.

If a nice RSA with 80k miles, no sunroof (positive), and minor cosmetic paintwork sells for $83k, it's tough for me to think a 45k mile example is worth more than $120k.

Any price north of $120k should have sub 30k miles, a "special" color like blue, yellow, silver or even white (as the majority seem to be black and red) and no sunroof (the most desirable factory delete option of the four). Also for prices north of $120k, original paint, no.accident and good documentation. Lastly car needs to be stock with no mods to command this premium. Dealers add no value per se in the final market valuation.

There are two Guards Red cars posted here on Rennlist..Those cars have sub 30K miles. They aren't special colors but are commanding prices over 140K. Original paint, accident free, no mods, great docs...
What should someone pay for a car like that?

selling price < asking price; remember that equation. the red one at Isringhausen is sub 20k miles and no sunroof. $130k IMO.

You should buy every under 20k original paint RSA you can find at 130k, even in the more unpopular colors of red and black which were the most common (white was 3rd but still only 113 of those). You will thank me in 10 years.
Remember where the '73 RS value was even up to the late 90's? RSA is next.

I am somewhat biased (own one, never for sale), but Hagerty's valuations are higher than what is being talked about here.

Lol; you have a 50% chance of being right...and a 50% chance of being wrong; easy to speculate with someone else's money. The 73 RS and what it represents has no comparison to the RSA; a better comparison would be the 964 RS.

Hagerty's doesn't sell cars. They are late to the party usually.

^ yup, RSA prices have done nothing but decline in the last 12mo. Hence Hagerty showing higher prices, cause their data is probably stuck in 2015.

I don't follow the RSA market very closely - but it does seem like there is fair amount compression of prices between C2 coupe and RSA's. It also get's debated constantly how "special" these are in comparison with a standard C2. I think if you look at the pricing of carrera club sport Vs a standard carrera that pricing spread is huge- the club sports are much rarer than a RSA but they too are only a slightly de-contented Carrera. I'd be a buyer of the right car at the right price.

I have been lucky enough to be right more than 50%, but point taken on other peoples money.

The 964 RS is more akin to the '73 RS Sport (what most refer to as the Lightweight) in both production numbers and intent. Porsche themselves compared the RSA to the '73 RS in their official literature so I will go with them.
