New Clutch: What Else Should I Get Done
Taking my '91 C4 in on the 10th, and I'm 99% confident they are going to confirm I need a new clutch (and maybe fork/seal...not sure).
Since the engine has to come out, I'm also going to get the following bits fixed at the same time:
-PS pump cover oil leak
-Valve adjustment
-Spark plugs (wires/ends if needed)
-Erratic hot start problem (suspect starter solenoid)
But, what else "should" be done or at least inspected with the engine out? Car has 70,000 miles, and other than above, is running fine.

It's a good idea to get a new LUK flywheel fitted to be safe. They say the LUK unit is much more reliable than the Freudenburg unit, but as I found out, they still can fail.

How's the condition of your engine compartment sound pad? Is it too early for you 75K service? I was charged 10 hours for mine, so it could save you some big money if you could tie it in (and if the timing made sense).

The service included:
- Valve adjustment
- Leakdown test
- Spark plugs (ended up replacing two wires and 1 dist cap elbow)
- Oil change & filter
- Fuel filter
- Change transmission oil
- Brake flush & bleed
And a check of quite a few components: rocker shaft position & tightness, belts, manifold torque, throttle, exhaust emissions, battery fluid & terminals, brake pads & rotors, wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods, axle shaft torque, heater hoses & valves, sunroof operation, door hinges & seals, fuse box, lights, horn, wipers and washer solvent.
I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between 15K services and the leakdown test may have been extra (but I insisted on it). Parts were another $500 and, at $100/hr for labor, the total came out to $1,500.
How does that compare to your receipt?
