heater fan runs when engine is off after delay.. supposed to?
I notice that when I park the car (92 C4) in the garage, usually less than 5 minutes after the car has been sitting, it sounds like the heater fan in the engine compartment turns on for about 30 seconds to a minute, then goes off. It does not do this regulary, only once in a while after driving - is this normal behavior especially since the engine and ignition is OFF!? Strange... no?
Thanks for all of your input as I get to know my C4...

My car does the same thing when its' hot, I always thought it was normal... I would imagine the temp gauge is telling the car to keep cooling after its been switched off. Is it normally after the car is all warmed up?

No it is not strange. This is called additional engine cooling and is armed and activated depending upon the temperature in the air pipes behind the rear blower fan. Inotherwards your engine is off, it has heat soaked and the fan cranks up to cool it off. When this happens just hop in a flick the ignition on. See what the engine temp is. I bet you will see it is quite hot.

Yep.... normal behavior... but, if it stays on for too long replace the Fan relay... I had that happen to mine. Took out the relay... gave it a tap.. and voila!... I later installed a new one for safety measures... hate to have the fan drain the battery...

Thanks guys - I am glad to hear it's normal. I, too, was worried it might be draining the battery if it was not supposed to be on. Now I can rest easy! Adrian, I will look at the engine temp next time it does this...

You do not need a picture it is easy to find. Open the engine lid. Look to the left and you will see a black cover held on by two plastic covers nuts. Pull this cover off and you will a couple of relays depending upon options. The big one with two relays drawn on the side is the rear blower fan relay.
