Default Excellence Was Expected

Just got my copy of the updated book by Karl Ludvigsen. Impressive, the 3 volume set, 20 lb worth, was inside a Bentley 'Excellence Was Expected' shipping box with exact fitting foam packing around the books - Bentley clearly wants this massive volume to arrive in good shape! Now I just have to make the time to read it.

Hi Bill,

I got mine Friday and there's a strange brown mark about 3" long on the front cover of the 3rd volume (right over the helmet of the Racer's Group driver). It looks like its a printing problem rather than something-after-the-fact.

Do you have that mark?

Thanks.

Karl.

Speaking of epic works, last week I ordered the DVD of the fourth season of the Sopranos. It's shipping tomorrow. Porsche content: Ralphie called the Boxster "a Porsche with panties." Of course, Ralphie was later decapitated per Tony Soprano's orders, but that doesn't mean he was wrong about Boxsters!

Karl,

Yes, mine has that too. Very odd. I think I know what it is, though. Look in the case, about half way down the right hand side, where the ribbon is attached. My third volume has a slight dent where the ribbon attaches to the case in it. So I'd surmise the ribbon for some reason stained the cover. I'm sending Bentley an email, get a new cover.

I've had my copy since late August and the cover does not have anything that looks like what you are describing.

Be careful reading it as the binding tends to crack due to the odd page format (Same as Automobile Quarterly). Best to read it supported on a desk. My original is toast in the binding department.
