Default Increased AC efficiency - easy fix

A couple weeks ago, I replaced my windshield. In the process, I needed to remove the dash pad and center HVAC vent. The foam seal around the vent was completely gone, leaving a good 3 square inches for air to leak around. Vent air pressure was never good, and I can see why. It took a 5/16 thick foam strip all around the vent to get it to seal. In addition, I used a less porous foam than what is in this file photo.

This is an easy fix if there is anyone out there like me who have never removed their vent. Air volume is much better now.

Interesting. So does the vent pull out with the dash in place or is the dash pad removal necessary to remove the vents? I have a radio delete plate that I can pop off and feel back there to see if I have a leaking problem before I disturb anything.

No need to remove dash pad... But need to remove vent if dash pad needs to come off for some other reason. However, with the dash pad on, you don't really see how much of a gap there is. From the pic you can see that they used a pretty thick foam seal. It needs it to fully seal. I used 5/16" seal ...

The vent just pulls straight out after depressing (down) the 2 tabs seen at the top of the pic. I needed to work mine loose cause it was probably in there for 27 years... Plastic could also be brittle, so take care.
