How perfect (condition) is your 964?
I have a 1991 Cab that I enjoy a great deal. The car has never had any major problems but I was somewhat surprised when I totaled up all the service receipts I have ~$75K over the life of the car. There have been a few big ticket items such as an engine rebuild ~$12K but most of the items have been general maintenance and replacement of wear and tear items - starter, steering rack, parts of hvac system, parts of convertible top mechanism, interior carpets etc. My car is in mechanically perfect condition but I'm getting to the point where I'm tired of chasing every scratch that shows up. I am still diligent about keeping it mechanically sound but the cosmetics don't bother me as much. The question I have is how "perfect" do you keep your 964 or other older cars?

I find this topic quite fascinating, as the spectrum of answers to your question should be HUGE based on what I see in SoCal .... I was at HD this week and saw newer 99x convertible and the Owner was placing four foot plants in dirty wooden bases on back seats, car looked like it was rinsed and left in sun to dry. I see many newish 9xx treated like a 20k DD... In LaLa land, there is apparently a lot of expendable income Don't think those folk spend much time on RL ?
I personally want to honor a classic and and keep well maintained, but not going to chase the high end nice to haves, such as, luxury glass out paint jobs... Unless gifted to me

Mine is a driver's car with plenty of stone chips, worn seats and an HVAC system that needs a few servos. I don't mind because what matters to me (engine, transmission, suspension) works like it should.

Not close to perfect and never will be.
It needs paint, a new interior, new suspension etc.
I am fixing it up slowly as I have the time and cash. I gets driven most days between March and November (we have too much salt in the winter months) and I love it. It will never be perfect because it gets used.

My 964 is perfect enough for me. Will it win a concours? probably not. But it drives well and sounds great and that's all that matters to me!

Funnily enough, one of the reasons I bought my 964 was because it WASN'T perfect, and I wanted a car that I would still care of, but didn't have to treat like a museum piece. It's still in very solid condition, but with it having over 100k Miles, it's never going to be the crown jewel of anyone's investment portfolio. I think it makes it more enjoyable when you can let go a little bit, and not go OCD on every little thing.
The first winter I had it, I even took it on a Driving School even on a frozen lake...I don't think I'll be doing that anymore, but it was a great experience that would've never happened with a "perfect" car.

Mine is "better than perfect." Sure it has the exterior patina of a mostly original paint 23 year old car with 100k+ miles. However if you hand it over to Rennsport Systems and Rothsport for 4+ months with an open checkbook, magic things happen. It's basically what the RSA should have been; part C2 and part RS.

Race Car
Mine....
Drive break fix drive again....
Gets to be perfect and new all the time...between being driven everyday, rain shine or snow...sort of a heavy drinker that every once in a while checks into his aa meetings for a few months for a drying out and health checkup...only to relapse again until it hurts so bad he needs a doctor.
Eventually it'll take its toll...but I'm going to drive it hard as my daily until it needs a full rotisserie rehab...and then drive it again...
No garage queens.

a work in progress
There will always be something I want to fix. I quit adding receipts at around 8,000 just in parts. couldn't add up the hours I have spent on her but she is my baby and I love her
