Default NEW Bosch starter - too good to be true?

I need a new starter for my '91 C2 manual trans.

Found this and had good luck with ECS recently for other parts. (No affiliation).

But it sounds too good to be true. Thoughts?

I think that the reman Bosch ones are all the same. ECS has a great inventory, but you can knock off $100+ elsewhere.

No problems with mine after ~3-4years. The new/reman ones are quite a bit lighter and easier to install too.

I bought the same part on Amazon for half of that. Worked a treat.

Its smaller than the original so its easier to remove and install which is a plus . My new bosch starter lasted four years and then became an issue. Of course no warranty on it after that time so I replaced it with an autozone unit which has a limited lifetime replacement.

I wondered why the new starter was cheaper than a remanufactured.../now i know!!

Its sad when Bosch comes up short...like the silver coils..

Absent anyone's specific time constrains, would one possibly be better off in the long run having a known shop rebuild it?

TIA

Well, if you think about it...at 150 dollars or so...its two bolts holding it on and once you've got the old huge one out and the new smaller one in- it's like a half hour repair to swap it out...

So I would just replace it and then as needed just keep replacing them when they break...no brainer.

I guess I was thinking more of longevity and if we have a feel for if the new unit is as durable as a proper overhaul of the original.

Thanks !

first time was always the hardest. I can see myself taking half of the time doing it again.

Resurrecting an older thread as I'm on the hunt to replace my original (working) starter,
since my engine is currently out. The above mentioned NEW starter (post #6) on Amazon for $115 + free shipping w/ a 1 year warranty is a hell of a deal. I mean it's basically 1/3 the price of a Bosch unit. Don't mind springing for the Bosch but is it worth it ? Has anyone had any reliability issues with this (Amazon) unit ? Feedback appreciated....

op probably already got his starter. but just provide another option here. MY starter acted up last year. it ended up a faulty solenoid. fixed it by replacing the solenoid for 25 dollars. I did the work myself so labor was free but PITA with jack stands. Time will tell how long this one last.
