4x4 no MORE
Finally!
Had new suspension installed last week. 4x4 no more. (your eyes can stop burning when I post pics now!)
I had our local suspension guru install a the basic set up: Bilstein HB B6 with HR sport coils (purple/greens). Since I use the car a couple times a week for "real world" duties I had one request.... "make sure I can get up/down my driveway!" He reassured me and said "no problem".... then I started thinking, he's never been to my Haus. I randomly said RS +20, but actually have no measurements as to how low it is.
First thoughts:
Boy does it look low, especially up front. For people in the know it looks great (but still too high for Dr. Knauf), but otherwise I think it looks a little goofy. Also,it finally has the correct front to back rake! Now it needs spacers to push the wheels out a bit... (the stance disease is setting in. LOL)
Of course my old shocks were toast:
front - could easily push down the both struts with a finger and there was NO rebound.
rear - passenger side blew up, leaked fluid
driver's side was seized and I could not put enough force on the shock to move it.
BTW, I was worried the install would run into some snafu because on my '90 shock towers. (worried strut design would not fit without a spacer). I decided to trust the order and no problems came up during the install.
And yes, I can get up my driveway. Just barely...
A couple of random pics:
The numbers: (Vandit, do these numbers look good?)
Room for a little more than one finger.

Great suspension setup. Now about those wheels? Are those the 18" Chinese Tire Rack specials? If so, find some 17" Cup 1's or a great alternative is the 17" 10 spoke 996 OEM wheel which is perfect size/offset, very light and inexpensive.

Looks great Udo! Why do you think it looks goofy?
I can see why you were concerned about the driveway - the apron is more like a curb!

Goofy? Because it is so dramatically different than where it was before it's just taking me a while to recalibrate. Like getting more taken off in your usual haircut. I grew up racing bicycles and shaved my legs. I thought it looked cool, but that was the 80s, and in Kansas. I was the only one that thought it was cool. And of course my racing buddies (and it turns out so did lots of girls...). So goofy to non club members, and compared to the gap on almost every other car out there. But really it was more goofy before, because that suspensions as in such a bad state.
The front wheel (205 on 17x7.5) now sits deep in the wheel well. Tucked in. So that adds to the visual drama.

Ran out of space on phone screen...
Thanks for the comments everyone.
The front height was horrible, and as much as I like to go on adventures and share pictures some shots were not shareable... It hurt my eyes and many of you were very polite in not bringing it up.
With the wheel tucked in more now, l can see where a 225 could easily fit in there, and 5 mm spacer would be a bonus too.
Such is the stanced life. I'm getting there.

10 spokes would look good on your car

Looks good. I remember when I first took my car off the jack stands after installing my Bilstein/H&R combo. It looked crazy low because I was so used to seeing it in 4x4 mode.
The alignment looks good. Toe should give it stability. Camber is generous for the twisties. Watch the inside shoulders for wear, especially in the rear.

4x4 mode, that's funny.... I recently installed Eibach sport and B6 and I set the front collar to mid way on threads... Took a look and knew would have driveway issue.. Back up, spun collars up towards top and still barely got jack out.. Off to alignment soon. Hope you don't mind will take few pics you've shared for reference... Rack'em up! My avatar is factory setup and is 4x4 mode
