The OEM wheels sit deeper inside the fender wells and to get a more modern, aggressive look, people will run spacers to lower the offset and push the wheels out, closer to the fender lip. The replicas are already a lower offset so you don't need to run spacers to have a more aggressive look. It's nice to have OEM and all but the reps are a good option and ultimately, they fit better.

Welcome to the fold!
There are lots of great wheels out there that look good on 964's, but I don't think you can beat some Cup 1's. 17" is also seems to be a sweet spot for road usage too - not too harsh and not too soft.

Well spotted! The car is in with them right now getting a few small (OCD) things sorted. It's only fair that I keep up the record keeping and get it really dialed in for the summer. Michael seems like a great guy, down to earth and exceptionally knowledgable. Top man.

Congrats on your new Porsche!
As regards the wheels, if you do not need two sets of wheels, then I would sell the twists. Your car is lowered, so 17" wheels will imho look better than the 16" ones. However, the larger wheels will be a little less comfy and a little more noisy. The 964 is not a quiet car, so I would personally go for 17" wheels. If you decide to go that way, you could sell both the twists and the 16" cups towards funding the wheels you really want.
I would say that genuine Cup I's are a great choice of wheel on a 964. Especially if you want to keep your can stock. Some would argue that the Cup I replicas have better offsets. I would say that the genuine Cup I's are the real thing and also look better than the replicas, imho.
But if you intend to tweak you car, then there are other wheel options to consider - including ones that are significantly lighter than the Cup I's. For example 17" Fuchs wheels do look good on a 964 and are super light.

Great looking car! As far as the wheels, I'd buy what you like best and not worry about oem vs aftermarket. You'll have the 16" set to fall back on should you decide to sell the car at a later time.

IMO the C2 5 spoke you have is the best-looking OEM rim ever fitted to a 964. I love mine; plasti-dipped them black.
ETA: Lookit that gloss- this stuff is the bomb: HD Speed

Awesome, another NY 964. As per the wheels, I woulnd't stress originality too much and just enjoy the car. The only thing to consider with wheels is the weight, the Cup1 replicas I had were very heavy for a 17" wheel.
