Default Recaro Profi XL Installation need Help

Dear All,
It has been a massive headache for me installing the Recaro Profi XL.
I'm 6''2 , using the BK side mount, slider and Planted Seat Base to install my Recaro Profi XL.
The head room is just 1'' short when I use my helmet.
Any suggestion on parts to order for a lower seat installation?
I've read all related threads and most of them are custom installation and I am not sure what to order in order to replicate their installation.
Thanks.

I use the same seats in my 993

I tried several different sidemounts
B&K first, but gave up on them. They are made of steel which is very difficult to work w/, I had access to a fully equipped machine shop and still gave up on them.

I tried a couple of aluminum versions w/ varying degrees of success and finally settled on stock Recaro aluminum side mounts. I also purchased a set of steel Recaro side mounts which were used for mockup and initial fitting to stock Recaro sliders using stock RS tunnel side belt receivers. When all was said and done my helmet was still bouncing off the ceiling. Final solution was a sunroof delete.

RS belt mount

and 3mm leveling washers

the GT3 sub bar also is 3mm thick where it is sandwiched between the slider and side

Colin at 9M modified the floor seat mounts to lower the seats when he did the 9M64RS build. See this thread.

Francis,

I went through this ordeal as well being a tall driver looking for more headroom. The best way is to mount the seat directly to the floor. Check out my install here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...-and-tips.html

Basically it's a Brey Krause floor mount and OEM 964 RS seatbelt mount which allows you to use separate mounting bolts holes so you don't have to sandwich the sealbelt mount between the floor and Brey Krause mount which would raise it up an additional ~1/4". Also, take out the Recaro seat padding to gain an additional 3/4-1" of headroom. This combination will net the most headroom without serious seat mount modifications.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks guys for your swift reply, I am trying to bolt the seat directly to the floor now, delete the seat rail and try to gain an inch of head room.

I think you will be happy with this setup. Just make sure you have the right Brey Krause mount (p/n: 9773), because I believe they sell a different mount for using sliders but I'm not positive. Best bet is to give them a call and ask or compare what you have to the ones in my thread.

Also, I ended up using the Porsche RS mount and modified one of the holes with a drill press to get everything to align.

Here is another picture showing how to mount the RS seatbelt mount behind the Brey Krause mount so you don't have to sandwich it in and raise up the mount. It also aligns the belt receptacle right through the opening in the seat which is nice.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm working on the same setup right now using Bill and Mike's threads for ideas.

I scrapped the sliders and currently have the seat mounted to the Planted base and floor using Planted side mounts. This provides plenty of headroom (6' w/ long torso) but offsets the seat too much from the steering wheel due to interference with the 3-point receptacle mount on the base.

My next step is to basically replicate Bill's setup and hope I'm short enough to keep the sunroof - parts are ordered. I tried the BK mounts pictured above but they put the seat back too far for my short legs.

Good luck, I'd love to hear how it goes.

I'm not tall 5-8 or so and when I mounted seat had to put the recaro mounts on lowest position or my helmet would brush. Good now. Sucks for you tall guys. Do remove the bottom cushion. My tall buddies do this on the new cars
