I found this thread very helpful and asked this on another thread before realizing I may as well post here. Can anyone help confirm this is the right part for the conversion in question?

Are the chrome rings on these removable? If so I'm wondering why not sandblast/prime/paint the chrome ring instead of purchasing and painting the plastic cover? I could also powdercoat these as I have an over and gun.

I was asking if the chrome rings are removable so that they can be powder coated. This is a tractive because no additional ring is required and they are metal and can therefore be powder coated

Yes, they are removable so you can replace the lens. They are held in with spring clips. The design goes back to the 356 as well as pre-67 air cooled VW's.
The trim ring covers are not plastic, they are also metal and IMO look better on the 964 because they hide the adjustment screws for a cleaner, more modern look. Actual weight savings is negligible.

Thanks for the helpful advice on the H4 replacement. I have a single question however: Do you have a part number for the H4 headlight assembly itself Porsche, Pelican Parts or otherwise? Thanks

H4s with chrome trim rings from suncoast are about half the price of H4s from pelican with black trim rings.

As mentioned in this thread, they say they’ll fit up to 86, but they fit 964 as well.

The FCP Marelli fits. Also has a city light socket. Does not come with a bulb, which is probably good since we all would likely replace it with something of our choice anyway.

Meant to ask - those who have added relays can you post a picture? I'm competent at wiring and have made a few looms from scratch but don't know where the power comes from and to for the 964 headlamp circuits.
