Default 964 cross country LA to NYC Planning

I hope this isn't crazy. I am planning to drive the 964 from LA to NYC in mid April over 14 days.

BG: I've done a similar trip in Iceland last year. 2000 miles in 13days around the whole island. It was however a rush. We tried to stop at every interesting location. But we ended up seeing so little.

So, for this trip. Where my gf will be with me for the first half. We would like to pick a few locations where we can spend a day or two relaxing. Then I wll try to make up the miles in the second half.

The car is in good shape. New tires, no burning oil. AC works . Will get AAA ready.

I've decided to do the northern route. Would like to stop at Montana to visit my friends there. We leave from LA.

MY major concern is parking at the end of day.

- for each stop, I hope to be able to park the car safely. I suppose a better hotel would do? tips?

- a few places we definitely want to see. Colorado, Utah, Montana, Badland? I really dont know much.

- would love to make it interesting first half for my gf. I can grind it out on the second half.

- how about meeting up some Rennlisters along the way

- tips on weather? Is snow done on high grounds? concerns for Hail?

- I plan to wrap the front of the car with vinyl. any other suggestions?

- routes, routes, routes. I understand I will have to cover a lot of ground with interstate. How about back roads I mustn't miss?

My rennlister friends. Please help me plan my epic trip.

(will x-post on offtop as well)

Yosemite is on the way. If you haven't been, you should check it out. Great drive.

I really enjoy the Badlands, and IMO Devil's Tower is not to be missed.

Scott's Bluff, in western Nebraska, is also very cool.

Sounds like fun. I would definitely compile a list of all the Porsche dealers along the route as well as good independent wrenches. Worst case scenario you get a uhaul truck with a trailer to bring it in. They sell that self sticking wrap that car dealers use on new cars on amazon. That should work on the front end. Won't look good, but it depends on how serious you are about protection. As far as hotels, stick to the more expensive end that has private parking, I wouldn't worry about it. A Red Roof Inn, the people who work there might steal it. Lol. I like when people take these adventures, it's like a reality TV show. Lol. It's doable as long as you have the funds to get you out of jams. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds awesome! Would love to do something similar!

Colorado can be quite surprising with spring snow showers. We've had a few storms in April dump 8-10 inches.

We just received 18inches at my place in Denver and they were only calling for 3-6.

I'd wait until May to schedule any planned trips through Colorado.

Sounds like a great plan just be prepared for any winter weather. As others have noted, weather can still get nasty in north mid April. Have worn a winter jacket and gloves to Cubs game in April. Hopefully the el nino this year will help bring spring earlier.

We did a similar trip 6 years ago, those are a a ton of fun. My wife, daughter and I flew to SLC to pick up a car and headed to Moab, Ouray, Glenwood Springs, Black Hills, Badlands, and then back to Minneapolis. A real blast with lots of cool scenery, something we still talk about and want to do again. If you come through Minneapolis and need a place to stay, PM me.

I'm jealous. We have been discussing doing this same drive across the northern states for a few years. Just haven't had the time to do it with her...

Enjoy it Ken...

Maybe make if from LA to Miami to avoid any snow? To tell you the truth I have yet to see another 964 in Florida but I hear in Miami they have one of the largest 964 and air cooled community
