...you are correct, partially anyways.
With the assistance of a 32mm wrench, your job would go a bit easier.
Use them in conjunction with each other or your will surely unscrew the tap fitting from either your thermostat or remote oil filter mount block.
Good luck, it's a tough job busting that one loose...watch your knuckles!

I vote for removing the whole oil filter mount block. I recently had to remove the engine, and that was the easiest way to loosen up the big nut.
Once it is loose you can easily slip the wrenches on the nuts.

That is actually a VERY good idea Geo...I have done that before as the first time I went to "wrangle" that line off, it seemed impossible.

just be really careful to thoroughly clean all the ****e (a northen word for you US listers!!) from under the wheel arch. If that ****e gets into your oil pipes, its in your engine.

The oil feed lines on my C4 are leaking at the oil filter mount block, does anyone know if these fittings have an olive seal inside or must they be replaced completely to make a proper seal?

Yup, I concur...then verify if they are in fact leaking from where the hose is crimped into the metal connectors.

But I'm pretty sure that's not what we are talking about.
I have a leak in this area too that I want to take some pictures of and post, just thought I'd get a head start with the learning curve.

in an "olive" compression joint , you will have the fitting body
tightening nut
olive !!
the olive goes over the pipe , and when the nut is tightened onto the fitting , the olive compresses onto the pipe , making the seal (hence the term compression fitting)
it is normally shaped like a wedding band (ring) , though some have 2 parts .
