A classic Land Rover. Slow but even the 964 can't put a smile on your face like this at 40 (if you can stay at that speed in a 964 ) This was also my first car.
Or get an older gtr. They're cheap right now and an awesome rear wheel drive sports car. Also, they have great build quality.
Lastly, my other vote is for an Alfa or Lotus of some sort (I personally like the Esprit TT (dream garage))

I have two project cars that you may like ...a rust free 2800cs and a donor car 2008 m5 with 33k on it and a smg box. Plan was to build a modern csl. Have the pics and renderings on my work computer. Let me know if you would like to see them.

I recently decided to relieve my 964 for daily driver duties in search of something classic, reliable and relatively easy to work on with parts readily available.
My top criteria were:
1) MY '75 or older (CA smog exempt)
2) 4 cylinder
3) $5-$10k budget
After much thought, I narrowed it down to 3 cars I really liked.
BMW 2002, Datsun 510 and Porsche 914. The 914 being the only one I've yet to own prior.
I finally ended up with this and I couldn't be happier😊!
It's not perfect, but it's a great driver.
It really complements the 64 in it's tossability and classic shape.
Best of luck in your search!

As recommended by Henry N Manney III (IIRC), everyone should own a v12 at least once in their lives.
I dont have any recommendations, but there are models out there that aren't too expensive and fit the bill.
Good luck,
Dan

Like anything else, gotta do your research, be patient and be ready to pull the trigger.

... and dont fall into the snooze and lose like me.
I saw an SLC this same color a few weeks ago, small town tire shop, sign in window, did that sign say $4500? Couldnt get it out of my mind. Drove 70 miles 2 days later to find it...SOLD the day before for $4K.
+M50 on the 635's, awsome in the "M" or EuroSpec with plenty of room for upgrades.
