Default Rear lights & reflector.

I am about to purchase a set of rear lights and reflector from my local OPC for my 1990 cab, these will be the updated vented type,my question is do I have to fit a gasket for these updated lights so they fit to my car?I read somewhere that I need to do this.

Dove,

Nope! No gasket required. I did this last Xmas. The lights have vents instead. It's just a straight swap. Made a huge difference to the look of the car after having discoloured & craked lights before!

what kind of price did you get quoted?
I priced the lights out and almost fell over.
tried ebay, but got burned by a deceptive seller....
the unit he sold me was broken, cracked and faded. it made my original faded one look new

when I replaced mine last week i reused the gaskets that were around the old lights. i assumed this was the right way to do it.
I got a very decent or I should say less obscene price from Sunset Porsche in oregon.
What a difference it is without the spider webed lenses!

jimq,

Porsche re-designed the lights with vents in an attempt to stop them misting up. Using the old gaskets will block these vents! (providing you've got the new lights with vents that is...!)

The vents don't actually vent the inside of the lights. They allow air to circulate around the whole unit. It seems that this is designed to keep the temperature down to try to reduce the problem of air forcing its way into and out of the units as it gets hot and cold. They key is to prevent the condensation problem from starting in the first place.

Hi Slingshot, dont bother trying to mix & match the lights and reflectors with used items as they will be different colours, the only way to do it is to buy new.I paid £420 for the lot at an OPC.

I had read the post talking about the vents but when I checked the lights they were the exact match to what was already on the car so I reused the gaskets. Only vents I see were the ones that hook up to the vacuum line which was not connected originaly on mine. The main plastic tube was a tight fit so it may have come that way from the factory. Seems like it would look strange without the gasket around them. I paid $480 including $23 shipping for all them.
