Default New guy saying hello

Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd say hello. I picked up my first Porsche at the weekend (actually, second but the first I didn't even want. I was buying a trailer and the seller said I couldn't have it unless I took the 924 that was on it!).

So here's MY 964!Name: 269e6c2e-a08f-43fd-9601-f30dcb710c66_zpsftizzzu5.jpg
Views: 112

It's in slightly better condition that that 924 was but is very much a project! I wanted something that I could do some light restoration work on myself but it'll always be a car that's for driving, not looking at!

So expect some stupid questions over the next 6 months! Spec is:
1990 Targa
Carerra 4
Guards red/faded pink/weird matt red/orange thing going on in places?
Tatty white/cream leather interior
But the good news is the engine feels strong and pulls well!

Cheers,
TK

Thanks twoshoes.

Originally I was going to backdate it but I spent Sunday machine polishing it and trying to correct the paint and I'm starting to quite like the lines.
Either way, first job will be fixing a few issues (side window adjustments, getting everything working, etc) Then sorting the ride height with some coilovers and maybe some other suspension upgrades while I'm under there. Hopefully by then I'll have decided which way I want to go with it. Then it'll be on to a respray.

Mechanically all seems to be well. Strong engine, good gearbox, etc. Alignment could be tweaked very slightly to improve the way it drives even more. It's mainly the looks that let it down at the moment. It seems to be a good car on the whole!

Agree on the suspension . Do you know the last time it had a valve adjustment or brake fluid change?

Hi Tom, great choice! where abouts are you , why not add your location to your profile so folks know and can invite you to meets etc?

I have that same car and have completed just about every mod/update so ask any questions you may have. If you do go for a glass out respray dont cut the rear screen seal, you must save it as they are NLA.

Good luck.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

Mrmandmman: I'll have a look through the history and see what was done when. Are there any signs of anything bad to come I should be looking out for?

TDIquattro: you might regret that. I'm sure I'll be in touch!

Black-Betty: I found that site, looks very useful. Looks like they don't have a forum though?

Welcome to 964 ownership. Do you know the maintenance history? If not, I would do a full service to get it to a known state, then start working on the cosmetics and upgrades. Keep us posted on your progress and don't hesitate to ask questions. We are here to help.

Thanks guys,
The history for the last 6 years of ownership is very well detailed. The previous owner did a lot of miles and it looks like he spared no expense on the 'oily bits'. But a full service is on the cards for sure.

Yup we're truly an event organisation. If we use forums we come to existing ones. So as to keep the W9O about driving, not just about reading & typing.

That said, we operate almost exclusively on Facebook. It works well for non moderated discussion and organising events.

Nah, there are already great forums out there. Facebook is really where all the vast volume of activity takes place... it allows us to accumulate a group that all know eachother on a face to face basis.

We weren't trying to start a tech forum. We started a real world social group.

That said, the rate of conversation re 964s on Facebook is insane.
