Default Axle Reattachment

I am getting down to the end of my install after a rebuild. I am stuck on one item. I cannot seem to get the right rear axle to have enough clearance to line up with the flange that the axle should be bolted to. In the below picture, that is as far as it will go and then there is no clearance to move the axle further to clear the cap to line them up. (hope that makes sense). I have raised the engine as high as it will go. I have also lowered it as far as it goes (with everything else connected). Any tips from someone that has been in the same situation.

Maybe the cv joints are at an angle where they are stuck? They both should be able to come in enough to get you on to the transaxle...if the suspension hanging down is keeping the outer from being able to move, maybe a jack under the trailing arm to lift it a bit would help...

I agree. Try jacking up the suspension on that side. Or lowering it if is already up?

Also check to be sure the axle spline isn't hanging up inside the hub...give it a good slathering of copper paste and put the nut on the end and wiggle it and pull it all the way in....you may have another half inch there...

Did you dismantle the CV joints?

Thanks for the ideas.

No just disconnected axles at transmission. The left side is easy as I had it tied up high. Could not tie the right side as the starter was in the way.

Raising the suspension does not help, actually there was less clearance. Will remove the slave cylinder in the morning and see if that helps.

It is way too hot for Dec. here. Working on the car when it is warm does not help the frustration level. I am so close to getting it back on the road after a year, but always run into some problem.

Grab the back of the trailing arm and put your foot on the transaxle and pull the trailing arm out and the axle with go right in...

Thanks. I will try that in the morning. Hope to get that done so that I can at least be to a point of starting the car tomorrow.

Take the Allen bolts completely out or make sure they aren't hanging up on the flange.

Yeah that shows you how much side to side play your suspension has with weissach effect!...

And why when shops always told me "rear cv's last forever becuase they have no stress on them" - they just don't get it...push me pull me...
