Prime PS pump?
Greets!
After a year-long nap my car is nearly awake again. It's still up on stands at the moment while I finish rebuilding the calipers.
I also dealt with some oil temp control issues (rehab OC, replace fan, replace soft lines to OC), a horrible power steering rack leak, play in my steering wheel, an oil change, and valve adjustment.
I replaced the rack, and in so doing completely drained the PS circuit. I've since refilled the (new) res (weeks ago) expecting to be able to get some fluid into the system by running the wheel back and forth, but that never happened.
Today I completed sealing the engine, so I added 9L of oil and spun it up with the starter to ensure I could get pressure. That worked great- I had 2 bar of pressure after ~15 seconds of cranking.
Unfortunately, I saw no movement of the PS fluid level (added less than 1qt so far, even though I ran the wheel back and forth while cranking.
My question: Is this worrisome, or should I expect it to self-prime normally at idle once the engine is actually running?
If it's a problem, should I seek to add fluid to the rack in some other way?

A member on here created a good DIY about bleeding the power steering system. I used this procedure for mine. Was pretty easy to do.
