Modded 930 owner looking to maybe switch to a C4. Always loved the slantnose look (blame holdover Miami-vice Testarossa affliction).
So I saw this on Ebay this morning:
1990 C4 Coupe with a supposed dealer/factory slantnose conversion.
Comments on veracity?
Anyone bought/dealt from schmitt motors in St. Louis?

You might want to do a search on Daniel Schmitt on the 993 board and on the General board. They don't have a great reputation I'm afraid.
As for the slantnose, there was a previous thread on this, which confirmed the old saw of different strokes for different folks
but also (IIRC) discussed authenticity.

I'm aware of the widely divergent opinion on the Slant...and I've picked my side.
I am unaware of IIRC? What is it and how could I check it?
Thank you in advance.

I have dealt with Scmitt. Go look at the car before you give them any $$$. I gave them a deposit on a 951 about a year ago and the car was a LOT worse off than they had described it to be. The "records" consisted of an owners manual, warranty & maintenance book (with 0 stamps in it) and a Porsche fact book. The dash was severely cracked and the carpets were worn out. It had been painted all over and they had said it was original paint. The salesman actually told me he thought I meant original color??? Anyway, I had to wait a month and make several phone calls to the owner, Daniel Schmitt, to get my deposit refunded. Cost me a 5 hour drive one-way and a night in a hotel and a day off work, but I learned my lesson! CAVEAT EMPTOR! This guy is a car jockey and you should verify anything they say!

IIRC is not something you can check, in fact it's one of those pesky acronyms used on the web, "If I Remember Correctly" = IIRC, like the ones used by my kid, NMJC any guesses?

I know this car. I saw Schmitt buy it at the Manhiem auction in May. They never made a slant C4. I have seen the car in person and its pretty clean but its obviously not original.

Do you think this reflected doubt on the claim that it was a 'dealer conversion'?
And just to be clear I am aware that it's an aftermarket oddity and not a factory sanctioned 'rarity'.
My interest is that it's a well done steel conversion, the paint job is good, PLUS the usual 1990 C4 concerns... Premium for the slant conversion between -3000 to +1000 depending.

Personally I think the slant conversion takes away from the value of the car. Dont forget its not just the nose its th fenders too and as you said its a car that Porsche nevr made. Its a well done car, clean and straight. Look at the where 1990 C4's are trading, I think the premium they are asking is way out of line. The also represent the car as having an "expensive" conversion. How do they know the cost. I know Schmitt moves a lot of cars. I see their guy running around at the auction all the time but there has ben a lot of "questionable" dealings with them noted on this board.

Lomotpk:
I like the way the car looks, but it is a 1990 car. As such, you need to have it checked out just like any other early 964. For example, has the DMF been replaced? Since it's a pre 1991 & 1/2 model, it may very likely have the dreaded cylinder head leak. How well was it maintained? Although the ad claims it's a conversion with parts from Germany, what does that mean? Does it mean a shop ordered actual slant nose body parts from Porsche and then retrofitted them to a 964 (presumably by welding them) or is it a fiber glass conversion kit from some company in Germany (assuming that the source of the parts really is a German company). Last but not least, what if a pick up truck or SUV decides to back into your car in a parking lot (this just happened to my 300ZX)? Where do you get replacement parts for all the slantnose components if the damage is severe enough?
Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

To me objectively speaking the slant look only looks authentic (not that I am a fan of this look) in the old 911 pre 90s look. I think the slant look model was 911SSE which was based on the mid 80s 3.2 Carrera look.
