Default Single distributor conversion???

Out of curiosity, does anyone make a conversion kit for 964/993 to ditch the twin distributor cap setup in place of a single 12 plug cap/distributor like the old school RSR race cars of the 70s?

Yes I know they're expensive but I remember a while back there was a company that made twin plug distributors for Porsche using a cheaper jaguar V12 distributor cap

This is quite possible to do as we've done a few on Motec-equipped cars, however,....you lose the Hall Sensor feature which renders the knock-sensors inoperative. Not a good idea for a street car.

But you can fit a cam phase sensor to achieve the same goal right?

Or how about distributorless :-)

Beautifully done!!!

While I've never fitted a Hall sensor inside one of the RSR-type twin-plug distributors, it may be possible. I cannot say without investigating the fitment to see whats needed. The Motronic EMS system needs that in order for the knock-sensing to work.

Now,....aftermarket Engine Management can use cam sensors and that's what we use with our Motec engines along with C-O-P ignition (which performs better than coil packs).

I think one day I'd consider COP (for engine bay aesthetics more than anything) however the costs are much higher. The bosch motorsport 3x2 coil packs are £90 each (you need two) where as the COPs are roughly £100 each and you need 12!! I'd also possibly need a few more ignition channels (and external bosch drivers) depending on how its configured.
