Jake, sweet build! Do you put a clear coat or anything on the case?

Also, what happened to the Auto Verde billet oil pump?

Cheers

I decided to use a 996TT oil pump in this one, and use the Auto Verde on my next build, which needs it more than this one does.

The case has a clear coat that's used on Aviation engine cases. This is made specifically for Aircooled engines.

I use 574 in some places on the case, but not everywhere. It takes me 9 sealants to build a leak free engine, that stays that way.

Thats "one of those things"... In this thread we will opnly have a few of 'them, I promise.

If I shared it, it would start a debate that would take over the thread. People would say that it doesn't work, or they'd have a thousand questions that wuld take us well outside the topic of building this engine.

That's a beautiful clean room. I'd really enjoy working in that space.

Thank you.. I built this facility last year just for a place for me to work in solitude. I have been having a lot more fun working alone, and the results speak for themselves -:-)

Jake, I'm interested to see where you stand on pistons? you seem to be intergrated with LN Eng who use JE pistons....which are considered by most as disposable. I understand with these custom builds Mahle is not an option...but if it were would it be your first?

Great build...I think this is the best advertisment you can make.

I assisted in the founding of LN Engineering. The "company" was comprised of two college kids when they sought out my assistance many moons ago. I was their first customer, and remain their largest customer.

I have also been their developer since day 31, and their first set of Nickies cylinders reside in my own 356 with a 2.7L 914 engine. My position with LN means all my components are proprietary, and that opens doors for things that others can't do.

Lots of Porsche builders don't like JEs simply because they are not OEM, or German. I believe in American made products first and foremost, and the majority of what you see in this thread are USA made parts, including the pistons, and cylinders.

JE does have some generic pistons that are not favorable. This line of pistons are cheap, and feature no options for added strength, or weight reduction. Thats not the case with the pistons that we use, as I design the pistons from scratch, the way I want them, and we don't cut corners to save money.

I am not married to JE. Over the years I have used Mahle, CP, and all the others, even Ross (yuck!).

Since 2000 I have had two JE piston failures, one was in a 914 engine spinning 9K RPM, the other was in an M96 that had 200 track hours on my engine, and was well used, tired, and should have never lived as long as it did.

To date I haven't ever experienced a JE piston failure in a Mezger based engine. Not even one.

Everyone has an opinion. Even the people without a tool box. Even the ones that don't change their own oil... Even the ones that blow up, everything they touch. Me, I don't listen to any of them, I do it my way and don't care about the other guy.

Great build...I think this is the best advertisment you can make.
Didn't post this to be an advertisement. Engines like this I build personally, and this amount of detail doesn't pay well enough for employees to do the work. I accept very few builds like this.

I posted this to show what a different way of thinking can create. Thats all.

I just noticed something!
FFA rods... What a small world. I know Ingo
Had no idea he was branding his own connecting rods. I'll have to hit him up and ask some questions

I was also skeptical on the JE pistons. We will see how they hold up in my application. FFA still needs to design them for me

Jake, I think very differently too and thank you for posting

Got a few questions for you which I hope you feel you can answer without giving away your trade secrets.

Why have you not boat tailed (think that is the correct term for radiusing the piston side of the main case crank bearing webs) the main case?

The coating you use on the main case is it for thermal reasons, a corrosion inhibitor or just decorative or another reason?

What are your thoughts on using titanium fixings on the lower stressed casing bolts other than the head bolts?

Got plenty of other questions but I'll keep them for later as I'm enjoying your build too much to interrupt it more.
