Default Stereo Hiss

I have an aftermarket head unit, but I'm hearing a hiss from my speakers. Do you think it's the factory amp? My speakers are all aftermarket. Wonder if I can just ditch the old amp?

What is this "stereo" thing you ask about? You have the greatest German symphony behind your ears and yet you turn on a "stereo"? Sad......

On the highway it's not bad to have tunes. But I get what you're saying. Also my phone is linked to it for hands free.

As far as I know. Just got the car less than a year ago, no that I'm driving it regular learning all the quirks.

Sounds like a cassette tape hiss.

check that they didn't run speaker wires next to the power lead for the amp sometimes speaker wire can pick up interference and cause a hiss or buzz.
try and see if it is coming from one speaker or all of them.

It could be the head unit but before swapping you will need to dismiss other possibilities so check all connections & make sure everything is earthed up properly (ie not the negative on your battery).

DobermanDad,

I have the same thing on a Porsche unit Becker CD22 or so (standard Boxster 1999 unit).

It goes away when I'm in CD source. Everything else I have a hiss that goes up in frequency with rpms.

I tried the grounding by grounding the unit to the car body separately or even the earth. No difference.

I gave up after that.

Either way, I'll keep my eyes on this thread.

Navaros your problem is linked to the alternator - its probably earthed to the negative on battery and that's how its passed to your stereo, correct earthing of your alternator should solve the problem. In many cases it could be that you have several issues so doing just one thing may not fix it and a series of corrective actions is required.

Read up on proper earthing as it causes peripheral noise.

Are you running high level inputs from the radio to the amp? I imagine the factory amp is supposed to get a low level input.

Your new deck is probably more powerful than the old amp, you can either re-wire your speakers directly to your deck or put a new amp in and run low-level inputs to it.

That's what I was thinking, the old amp isn't designed for the new head unit.

I'll check this stuff out. Thank you guys.

I know this thread is from 2014, but I had that hiss on acceleration sound right after my car was cleaned....
The dudes unplugged my SNI-1 Noice Suppression Filter.

That's it....i moved the seat back and saw the two plugs dangling like a hot chicks shoe off her foot.
