Wow, thanks for the pointer to the Aussie rebuild & DIY thread from back in 2011 - 2013.
Holy cow 555 posts in that thread!!! I will definitely need more time to read through that one.

You may be right in that it is just simple early 90's plastic deterioration over time. But for some of us who keep our sunroofs open a lot while driving, I'm sure the deterioration is accelerated due to UV.

Only one of the deflector hinges broke on mine (so I'm replacing both), & I was lucky enough to recognize the sound of breaking plastic when I opened the sunroof,... so I did not do further damage by trying to close it. This was a very quick & easy fix.

Thanks for the pointers and chiming in guys. VERY valuable forum.

Those deflector hinges must be the "lowest-cost" 964 parts......

They're certainly cheap enough, but if you really want to go the whole DIY route, you can download the STL files for printing with a 3D printer here:

Hahah! That's my file. Hope it works for you. Worked for me but a little tricky to get the two sides aligned when gluing them together.
