Sunroof and window help!
Hey,
The sunroof on my 964 won't close. It opens fine but won't close.
The gap between the the headliner and the sunroof panel at the rear of the sunroof is very tight. The car had a full respray with the interior out around 18 months ago, so might it be the headliner has ben put in a little tight?
Also the passenger window doesn't really work, I've got a replacement rail as the existing one is a bent bent and rusty. But even with all the mechanism down, the window feels tight going down, again could this be new tight seals?
Thanks,
p.s a build thread to document all the changes I do will be up soon!

Its likely the roof is being pulled closed slightly unevenly which stops the roof flipping up into the closed position. Check the gap either side when the roof lead edge is just touching the felt to see if it the same both sides. There are two screws covering the motor worm drive that can be removed, then straighten the roof leading edge so each side is at the same point and replace the worm drive cover.

Thanks for the replies.
Had a bit of a play today, drove up to my parents house and when I got there, sunroof opened and closed no problem. Got stuck once, but got it shut again. But in doing so, my sunroof has now got some light scratches on? So the top of the sunroof must be catching somewhere on the roof when moving? Didn't take the panel out as I didn't want to scratch the panel more than I already have!
Going to have to go into a bodyshop now to get scratches sorted, so may as well get them to look at the sunroof? Any recommendations ras62? I'm based about 5 mins from Porsche Chester
To worsen my mood as well, the glass panel in my french door at the back of the house has shattered in the heat today!

It is very easy to scratch the roof panel when installing but once its in and screwed in place there is nothing that would cause scratches when it's moving. Leads me to think whoever put the roof panel in has not done it properly. If you are handy there are several treads showing how to replace the cables which takes you through removal / installation step by step with pictures. First it would be wise to see if all four corners are connected properly and inspect the various runners, springs and guides. The sunroof interior panel is just held in place with connectors on the front edge, just pull it down or insert a slim blade to get some leverage and all will be revealed. I wouldn't use the OPC...for paint or the roof as they will simply farm the car out to a body shop. If you are looking for a good specialist I would suggest using Unit 11 in Warrington.
Sorry I cant help with the French door other than suggesting a nice cool pint!

Ran out of time today really and got scared of doing more damage. Will take it apart and see what's what when I get chance.
Won't be using Porsche Chester, I hadn't thought of Unit 11, didn't think they would do this side of things? Will give them a call if having a look myself doesn't get close!
As for the french door, a beer and a couple of gins with a barbecue has improved my mood!
Thanks for replies!

Chris,
Here's a link to an album full of sunroof pictures from when I had it apart to fix a cable:

Does anyone know the part number for this plastic push-down lever. Seems it would be a commonly replaced item, but I cannot find it on any parts websites incl suncoast, pelican, etc.
Imprinted on the plastic is part number 490 524 655

Thanks ZG. I now also see this part is called a Wind Deflector Hinge
I see others have asked (Pelican Parts), & it's worth repeating,... this part could easily be reproduced out of aluminum for a lifetime of trouble free use,... verses plastic which the UV rays clearly beat up over the years.
This forum is the best.

So what did you and ras62 do to fix it? i am having this same problem. was likely removed for full respray and now it will open no problem, but gets hung sometimes on closing and will close with an extra try, but again like you note above there are two nice scratches now on either side of the sunroof where it is hitting something and getting hung...

The 1st thing I knew about one of my plastic ramps breaking was failure of the central deflector to retract on closing the roof. I was able to stop closing the roof immediately and poke in the deflector so the roof shut. I could see that before I did so the guides were sat at funny (i.e. non-symmetrical) angles and so something was wrong. When investigating, I came across Babalouie's Aussie 964 thread (remember that??) and realised quickly that the guide was broken.
Incidentally, it can't possibly be UV degradation: my car has been almost exclusively in UK where summer lasts for no more than 2 unconnected midweek days every couple of years. I think mine broke out of shock of discovering it was not gently drizzling when I opened the roof.
