Default Huge oil leak

Been out for a run, and once I'd parked up noticed oil pouring out of the drivers side (rhd) rear of the car. Looks to be coming from up in the wheel arch, but difficult to see from where. Just waiting on car being recovered now, but anyone got any ideas (appreciate that's really vague).

Hi Haves
Not great news!! There's a multitude of pipes in that area and if they haven't been changed they're going to hard and brittle! Bit of a ticking time bomb unfortunately. At least you've caught it before you ran out of oil mate!

Cheers Simon, just had the car dropped off at a pals garage so he can have a look next week. Fingers crossed its something simple, and that the oil level was
Ok as knocked the engine off as soon as I saw the oil. Hadn't seen any oil warning lights so hoping this is the case anyway!

Didn't get one of the original mess, but I took this lot after we'd pushed it to the side of the road....

The braided oil line from the filter console back over to the thermostat gets pretty brittle and can fail. Also though I've had the oil filter itself leak. I was a bonehead and after an oil change I simply didn't tighten the new one and it made an unholy mess.

On the braided line, I took my old one out and simply flexing it a bit it shattered into four distinct pieces... so that old line can be risk (as stated above)

Not good to hear bud, but as Simon says, at least you got to it before you ran out!

I had a similar pool of oil a few weeks ago and it was the oil line that runs from filter housing to thermostat, around the wheel arch.

Hope you get it fixed soon

Thanks for that bud

We managed a decent turn out too, with 20+ Porsche. The genuine 2.7RS was a highlight.

If from front of the wheel arch then likely one of the pipes (or fittings) to/from the oil reservoir or thermostat. Hopefully one of the lower ones as can access these without removing the tank completely.

If from the rear of the arch then as suggested, a pipe to/from the oil filter bracket. Mine leaked from there and on to the muffler, smelly and annoying. Early pipe from tank to filter was a push fit and jubilee clip at the end union. Later pipes a permanent compression/swaged pipe fitting.

At least your leak is not emanating from the engine itself, so some relief there I guess.

Just had a call from the garage and it's one if the metal pipes in the front of the arch that had corroded through and split, they didn't specify which but I'll find out.

Could also be from the oil level sender, attached to the tank. Like yours, mine initially left a pool after a run when the oil was hot and had expanded. Not an expensive repair. However, as others have said, could equally be one of the many other pipes at the tank end. My long braided line went last year and Tom (Ferguson) also had to change the filter housing itself, which had corroded badly. Hope yours is a cheaper fix.

Now have the car back and it was the pipe that runs right over the top of the arch, possibly to the oil filter.

My worry now is the garage have overfilled the car. The guage in the car is reading max when nowhere near hot - should I ask them to drain some oil out?

Is the oil thermostat open when you get this reading? (you can test this by either placing your hand on the sill by the bottom of the drivers door or on the front wing above where the oil pipes would be. If they're warm, it's open and you'll probably be OK. If it's cold then it's closed and it's overfilled.
