fitting an aluminium hood/bonnet
I'm wondering what ancillary parts are needed (I have the hood itself) -I know that there's an RS specific bonnet stay, for example; Would love some part numbers, but any advice on what's involved is appreciated

As far as I know thats the only part that differs from the regular fitting, apart from replacing the badge with a sticker that is

Many thanks - I emailed type911 with the same question a while ago, but received a 'I need part numbers' reply.
Did the 964RS have a sticker instead of a badge (there seem to be many around with a badge)?

Ali bonnet exactly the same as the steel. It fits just the same way. Every RS Ali bonnet that I've seen has had a standard crest badge (mine included). I have no idea if they come with pre-drilled holes for it though.
The prop rivets to the inside of the bonnet frame and locates into one of the shock absorber hex bolt heads. Sorry I haven't got the part number, but I'm pretty sure they're still available.
I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure the ali bonnet still has a steel frame, it is just an ali skin, so the weight saving is not actually all that huge. A carbon bonnet is a different question though !

The RS (aluminum) hood uses standard steel porsche badge, other than the hood prop everything else is the same. A 993 AL hood will fit just fine on a 964, windshield washers are in a different location, only easy way to tell

here you have the parts for the RS rod pin etc. The alu hood is 6 kg compared to 14-15 kg, I don't remember exactly. My carbon hood is 4,5 kg and it's a replica of a steel hood so it fits like a factory part.

Today at the dealer, only the 993 part is available. Fits exactly like the 964, but has 2 holes for the windshield washers. Not easy to fill, need to find a competent welder that will not warp the lid to crap.
Had a 993 lid on my car, fitted perfectly (after welding the washer holes). Have a 964 Cup lid now, same fit.

I'm getting round to trying to fit this thing now - but think I might be in trouble with my non OEM strut brace (non OEM RS in fact!).... is this the correct version of bonnet prop & stay (which seems to be no more than a nut..)?

The first pic is a pre 89 impact bumper car and the hole the prop is in is the top mount allen key type bolt. Not seen where the alternative position would be on the 964, looks like you have a few places that would work though. Careful using when its windy as the light bonnet might lift in a gust and unseat the "spike", i wonder if you could find a way to capture it instead?
Good luck
