Default Alternator, how high voltage output?

How much is the alternator supposed to put out?
Mine gives 13.5-13.7 but is it not supposed to give 14 volt?

Hello Dane,
Are you running at 2000rpm when taking the readings?
You should have a reading of +13,5 Volt
So it sounds OK....no under or overvoltage ;-)

Hej Per

Well, the reason I ask is because the battery died during the winter season. After changing the battery, my father (old VW mechanic) measured at the battery and how much it charged also when applying stress to the battery and the reading was too low he said. Therefore I though the alternator was gone and I ask my workshop to take a look at it. He said it put out 13.5-13.7 and that was okay, but the old man says it should supply 14 volt and that all alternators should deliver that.
