Default Preparing suspension upgrade - Your Strut Brace

Gentlemen,

Springs and Struts (Eibach/Bilstein HD) on way to me. Looking at CF and/or Aluminum front strut brace and mostly want installation feet to fit exiting hardware, hence, no drilling. What about carpet fit? I've searched the forums, quicker for me to hear from those of you happy with your installation. Looking to source from states.

M.

I have the Weltmeister strut bar and it fits perfectly and under the carpet.

I have the FVD strut brace fitted on my car and it is most likely manufactured by Heigo. The original carpet, however, does not fit all that well and I would choose the RUF item next time around.

I got the KLA strut (http://www.klaindustries.net/993stb/993stb.htm). Great fit, easy to install, reasonably priced, fits under the carpet. Here's the thing though... I see that you are driving a stock C4 TL , with carpet in the frunk and everything. It is highly probable that you aren't going to notice a thing by putting this in and it will be a waste of money (granted not a lot if you get the KLA). I put it in my cab which is arguably one of the scenarios where you could see an improvement in handling due to chassis stiffening. I didn't notice a thing and unless you are driving your car on the edge of the performance envelope you won't either.

The suspension upgrade however is an entirely different matter. You will love how this upgrade changes your car.

I'm looking forward to that I didn't think that through as bit of spirited street driving is all I intend to be doing in near future...So, you're saying strut brace in my setup may not have noticeable impact. Appreciate the feedback as I have other areas to spend money on .....

I would rethink the Eibach springs! Do a search, and you'll see why.

I have a Heigo SB, and have no trouble fitting the carpet over or under the brace. I prefer under the brace, because I like the functional appearance better.

Another vote for "you'll never notice the difference." But, hey, they're cheap. I also wouldn't sweat aluminum or CF over plain old steel. My hollow steel brace doesn't weigh much more than a couple bottles of water.

Maybe true in street driving, but I definitely notice it in autocrossing, which I've done with my car for the past 15 years.

Subjectively I did notice a difference when I had the FVD strut brace installed on my C4, especially when driving on the wonderful and addictive Swiss mountain roads...

You have a better calibrated butt than I, sir! I don't notice a difference in a/x either, and that's in a slightly-stiffly sprung cabrio. It certainly can't hurt, but it wouldn't be very high on my priority list.

Feel free to PM with some search criteria? When I search Eibach, I get several positive over negative comments?

I am really just wanting to refresh 20yo stock setup, not chasing the firm aggressive setup that many seek. stuff came in today, Bilstein HD all around and Eibach PRO kit for $1298.00 to my front door. Shoot, if I don't like springs, I will put back my stock springs. Once PNA opens the Carson training center, I will probably throw the whole setup out, get some KW V9's and become a Crazy Mad Racer Eibach says million mile warranty, yeah right. If they say that then stock springs with 43k miles should just be getting broken in

I still need someone to advise on how many labor hours I should let an INDY charge me to switch front and rear shocks? My guess, 4 hours? Alignment is seperate provider.

One thing to remember with a SB is that a small accident on one side will translate into an accident on the other side too... so on a street car I wouldn't do it.

I removed mine and don't notice it all that much.

It is noticeable, but on the road the benefit is lost on me.

The problem is the new springs are designed to work with the Billy HDs, not the stock springs.

Your 20 year old springs are still probably fine, they are holding up the car... The dampers (shocks) are toast, so they can't control the springs well anymore.
Springs last a long time.
