okay, i have the screws out - don't know why i didnt notice the cutout in the fan blade before.

i constructed a hacksaw blade removal tool to undue to the clips - no luck... the 12 and 6 position is where the clip releases are ? is there something else i am looking for ? advice ?

the new motors come with a fan ?

tks

I used a flat blade screwdriver to just push the clip down.

You need 2 hack saw blades simultaneously (big word for me). It helps if you bend the last 3/4" of the ends up just a bit, makes the blade slide past the tap a little easier.
In the picture you will see the 2 holes where the blades go in, top and bottom.

ill try a screw driver also....... the blades were straight and they felt like they just dead ended into something.

wasn't sure how aggressive i need to get...or whether the 12 - 6 holes were the right ones

can u post what a side view of that motor and the back where these clips on it ?

Here's a couple of shots. Hope this helps. Not the best quality, (iPhone pics), but you get the idea.

so does that black housing come out with the motor also ?

if so, that is why i am confused. what is keeping the motor attached to the black housing if the torq screwed have been removed.

i can see where the blade would dead end into the flat rear of that end piece and why i was thinking i had it wrong before.

Henry, this is not brain surgery. The whole kit and caboodle comes out. The motor is held in the plastic cage by 2 taps, very similar to the ones holding the whole assembly. Grab your 2 saw blades, insert one, and wiggle it around until it slips all the way past the hook on one tap, then repeat on the other, then remove the fan, motor and plastic cage all in one piece.
I included 2 more pictures, one show the taps holding the motor and cage together, the other a better look at the tap that holds the assembly in place. Notice the little RAMP in the middle of the tap, thats there for your tool to slide up past the hooks. If you bend the ends of your blades up a small amount, they will slide in easier.

I DID IT...

after some time screwing around with the hacksaw blades I found another post where a user recommended a screw driver. stick in, twist and push down. 30 seconds....

now...

when i first opened it up. the motor was stuck/seized... in the course of trying to remove it - it has freed up. there is an occasional squeak... i don't detect any noticeable play in shaft.

how freely should the cage spin ?

i hooked it up to 12V and it takes off - no noticeable noise.

do the motors run in tandem just blowing on their respective sides of the car or ?

i haven't ordered new motors yet - but do they come with the plastic surround and cage ?

In all kindness Ohenry read the responses- at least a couple of us suggested using a flat bladed screwdriver to remove the fan... now see CRG's post, #13, for the fix to stop the squeak-I followed CRG's recommendation a couple of years ago and it worked like a charm to stop the squeak.

Good luck.
