I still haven't worked out if the spare tyre in the front is an urban myth or not. Personally I struggle to believe it is supposed to form part of front crash structure as it is removable.
Yes, the tanks are always in the front, but this fuel cell is even closer to the front and that is maybe not a good thing.
The spare is now a days more or less confirmed as a part of the structure. Yes you can remove it but is bolted to the floor. There are many pics around with front end crasches where you can see how much impact the spare has taken.
