I'm trying to find a stock chip to put in my C2, and before I put an ad in the classifieds, i'm wondering what my options are as far as putting chips from other years in my car. Are the chips for C2's "universal"? Or do I need one from a 90C2, that also happens to be originally a California car?
Thanks for any info.
-Eric
(The car has a Windward Performance Chip, and it's pretty old, and i've changed the flywheel from the LWF to the Andial modified flywheel, which cured the stalling, but now the idle is too high......... I'm assuming it has something to do with the chip.)
Thanks for any info.

Dear Eric,
No they are not universal. You cannot put a chip from newer DME into an older one and vice versa. There is not a Californian DME either. The model year 1990 actually doesn't help either. You need to check the EXACT part number of your DME and find the replacement chip. The DME changes were made on certain dates not at the beginning of a model year.
However before we do anymore please let me know your part number.
Just for info. There were two completely different series of DMEs used. The 911 series and the 964 series. A 911 series DME will not work in a 964 series configured harness but the 964 series can be used to replace a 911 series.
Ciao,
Adrian

Adrian,
I'm pretty sure it was a 911 series DME (I took a picture of the tag when I had it out of the car, i'll post the whole # tonight). It sounds like it might be easier (but not cheaper) for me to just buy another aftermarket chip then...... bah humbug.....

The DME with the Bosch number you provided is the most common early
964 unit here in the U.S. All 964 DMEs are basically the same. It's the chip
that makes it unique. Bosch and Porsche didn't design a DME for each
964 type and market, just as they didn't design unique 3.2 DMEs.
The same approach was taken with BMW DMEs, the chip defines the
vehicle and market.
Check out the web site (systemsc.com) under PARTS and you'll see the
various 964 DMEs listed.
So, if you can obtain any stock chip from a 450, you'll be back to stock.
A problem may arise because of the non-stock flywheel (not a DMF).
Chip changing is very simple so at least try a stock chip.
Good Luck
Loren
You've indicated an idle increase after changing the flywheel.
First, try and find a stock chip and then deal with the idle later.

Loren,
Thanks, i'll start looking for a 450 series chip. My car had idle problems before the flywheel switch. Now i'm just trying to get it closer to stock. The stalling went away with the Andial upgrade, but it has always idled high.

Eric,
I have an original chip from a 91 C2. The chip has a label with 1267356278. If you can use it let me know.

Just a quick follow up. The chip worked and the idle is now low and smooth. Feels like a different car. The mid-range response seems different, and there is a definite "bucking" feel at partial throttle that wasn't there before...... more to look into....oh boy......
