So, I'm looking at a '90 C2 at a price that can't be beat and will get a PPI before purchase that will include compression/leak down tests... However, since I'm an impatient person, I hope someone can enlighten me on, the fact that the car seems way down on power. It idles fine, doesn't miss, doesn't overheat...it is just slow. I owned a '91 C2 years ago and this is definitely slow.... I was thinking it might be the distributor belt, but just not sure...
Throttle cable adjustment is always worth a look on a car that seems low on power - peg the throttle from the drivers seat with the engine off and check it has rotated the throttle in the engine bay fully.
Does it feel slow low down or up top?
Dizzy belt snapped would feel worse than just slow.
Good luck with the purchase - if the price is keen and you like the spec dont get too hung up on the small stuff, pretty much everything is fixable with a bit of ££ and time.
Quite a few things that could cause it to be down in power. If it is local, you could borrow my tester and laptop and check out the OBD1 status. This could help.
Could be the resonance flap stuck. Could be coils. Many other things.
Is it low in power throughout the power band, or only at higher RPM's?
When I bought mine I thought it felt slow, granted I'd never driven a 964 prior to driving home from the purchase, but I found the throttle cable needed adjusting. It wasn't triggering the WOT switch. I adjusted it properly and it made a world of difference! I hope it turns out to be something simple like this for you. Good luck on the 964!
