You should be ok with new rear tires and 50% front tyres.

At the moment you are running worn rears and 50% fronts which does not give you any problems with the 4x4... The differ in diameter about the same as the nex combination I gues

This was another thought I'd had, but with the awd parts being so expensive, didn't want to just be pretty sure it was ok.

What damages can occur if different sized rolling diameters were used. Damage to the transmission or differential?

Any opinions on this: Michelin's site says the the Pilot Sport A/S 3 is equal to the PS2 in every category (including handling) except wear life, fuel efficiency, and comfort, in which the A/S 3 rates higher. And it has a 45k mile warranty vs the 20k of the PS2. Wouldn't it make sense to go with the A/S 3?

The as is an all season. It's never going to perform as well as a pilot sport or a pilot super sport in dry conditions of you are getting heat in the tires and pushing it hard. You will not notice much difference in normal street driving ever. The as will likely out perform the ps in the rain, and in cold conditions the as will be far far better.

I use pilot sports in the summer and alpin sport snows in the winter. But if I had to choose an all around tire i would go with the as since it's a competent all season. But then, what's the point of having a car that handles so well, and then putting a not so sticky tire on it for the dry conditions when you want to play?

Such a tire does not exist. Especially not for a car with the performance of ours, or in a climate that actually sees snow and >30°c in the same year

It's just strange to me that on their 1-10 scale they would score those tires the way they did.
