Default Bleeding my clutch slave cylinder for the first time

Here's a newbie question: can you bleed your clutch without bleeding your brakes? My brakes were bled and fluids flushed with new recently so don't want to have to do that again. If I don't have to reflush the whole system, how much should I bleed for? Also, what size tube do you use to connect to the slave cylinder? Thanks!

Yes, you can bleed the clutch slave only. The reservoir for brake and clutch is one and the same. Use a pressure bleeder for best result. The bleed valve/screw is 7 or 8 mm wrench size, I use some 3/16" i.d. clear plastic line for fluid control. There is not a lot fluid in the system, but run 250ml or so through it.

there is a very good chance your slave cylinder is going to go bad when you bleed it. if it's still the original. good luck. I had the dark moment

Not a problem when I bled mine. It did produce some very dark dirty fluid though.

Did you use a power bleeder? I've read that you can really damage the slave if you depress the pedal manually.

7mm wrench needed at clutch cylinder. If the cylinder has not been flushed in some time, expect the fluid to be very dark.

Be sure to pinch off the overflow line at reservoir or a pool of fluid will be on the floor.

It is a little tricky to get to the clutch cylinder, but can be done. Pressure bleed is the better method to use.

DJ.

As many had reported, the only thing sealing the piece is the gunk in there after many years. they ended up replacing the uint.

anyhow, mine was not completely dead after all. we bled again and again with wet method. made it work. but I am gonna change the unit on my next full system flush.

Dexter, 964 edition.

Regarding the slave bleed, make sure the resevoir is filled to the top. The pick-up for the clutch circuit is much higher than the brakes, so it's easy to get air if the fluid level drops.
