Adapting for a 993 would require flipping the flanges on one side, I think it's the driver side. I made a fixture for this so I and some buddies could use 993 HEs for backdating.

I will say 993 HEs are already quite good, the whole exhaust system is wayyyyy better than prior years. So a 993 likely won't see the gains a 964 or Carrera or SC would.

Also, I need to figure out how to do them with heat.

I'm also going to get these and make a custom system from them, even easier now that I know they are a direct bolt on.
Have used OBX's VW headers in the past as well as one of their 02J LSD's which stood up to our track abuse, been bloody brilliant actually.

Feel free to keep us posted on your progress in here if you get around to it before me. It would be nice to keep it all consolidated for everyone that searches in the future

I thought the 993 heads had all four holes for exhaust studs?

Instead of re-welding the flange for 993, couldn't you just move the exhaust studs to the alternate locations?

No, they have only 2 studs on the exhaust side, like prior 911s but unlike with the silly flipping of one side.

Pick your poison but I'd rather do the work to the headers than drilling & tapping for another set of studs. If you miss the alignment in the heads you could be real sorry.

Jstyer is correct, all the 993 heads I have seen pictures of, have 4 threaded hole and 2 studs.

The issue is that the 964 heads don't have the extra stud holes and the 993 headers have the the flanges aligned differently.
Hence the safest way to install 993 headers on a 964 is to flip the flanges...
If you were putting 964 headers on a 993 you could just move the studs, simple but obviously not a common mod!

I say go for the OBX BHCfarkas. The price some people charge for headers is crazy. Proper Porsche tax.

I bought some 1.75" headers same as in the link below and have run them on my 964 engine with great results. They are not the best quality and can be a bit of a wrestle to get on and off along with the 'merge collector' being a bit crude like the OBX but they are sensibly priced and do the job.

Saying that, I'm in the process of making a new exhaust with heat because the novelty of freezing your **** off in the winter wears off pretty quickly!

Headers fitted:

Sure no probs, don't currently see any 65-89 ones on Ebay only the 3.0RSR ones while they would also fit I wonder which would work best?

The other gent was suggesting the 1.62" ID tube headers to prevent any bottom end loss and keep a good back pressure, which would be the 3.0RSR design. I'm going to agree with him as well because these should still flow better than the OE headers, but keep enough back pressure to help the bottom end torque loss you would see with a bigger diameter tube.

Fair call, will try those then.
Main problem with the OE header is the bottleneck 6 in to 1 cross over pipe so I have no doubt even a mediocre design header would flow more.
I'm wanting a twin center outlet so bought a GT3 rear can which will be interesting.
