As long as the right tools are used to create the brushed finish there should be no reason to put a clear coat on it and if anything it will make it look bad. Natural brushed finish will look great and no issues with corrosion resistance.

I think matte/brushed stainless or matte black - depending on the color of the car. To me a glossy or shiny targa bar starts to look like a handle. When it stands out too much it impacts the profile lines of the car. One last thought - the black Targa bar is now a $700 option on the 992 Targa. The stainless look bar is standard.
