Intro Thread...'91 C4 Coupe
Hey all. So, this just fell into my lap..I wasn't even looking for one and it came up for sale for $12K from a retiring coworker and I jumped on it. I had to make room in my garage for it so I sold my 1959 Karmann Ghia that my mom bought brand new that I had sitting in my garage for the 20 or so years...the ghia sold for more than what I paid for the 964. So, I'm the 3rd owner on this..the previous owner had it since '99 and the same mechanic has worked on it since it was new. It's been maintained pretty well..there are some things that I'm scratching my head about and it has some minor oil leaks that are driving me crazy but it is a strong running car and most everything is sorted. I'm going in deep on the 964 systems and I'll probably end up rebuilding it from the ground up whether it needs it or not..but I can say this..my garage will never not have a 911 in it. This is the most fun car and overall experience I've ever had. I just painted the wheels tonight and put new tires on it and my distributor is at Rennsport being rebuilt since the belt was busted. Fun, fun car...I doubt if I'll ever sell it...I don't care how much they are worth..I'm driving this thing..after the Ghia sale I'm into this car for $167. Heh. Looking forward to getting to know all you guys, I've met and chatted with a few..this place rocks.

Nice deal, but was it a difficult decision to sell the Ghia?
My father owned a Triumph Stag, he'd always wanted one. He bought it for his 80th birthday, unfortunately he passed away 8 months after he bought it. It wasn't my kind of car, my mother was never going to drive it and so It was sold it.
That was a very difficult decision and it had only been in the family for such a short time.

Make sure you have Steve do the full rebuild on the distributer and not just the belt. It doesn't cost much more to hit the bearings while you are in there and peace of mind is nice.

More info I forgot to include...it has been lowered, chipped, and has stainless exhaust. I have the original window sticker and a folder full of repair history since new. Tool kit, jack and accessories, and a compressor are all included which is good since I shredded a rear tire the first time I drove it. That was kind of a trip to try to figure out that whole tire change process... in the middle of nowhere in Idaho with no cell service...and in the rain of course.
It was kind of hard seeing it roll away to California on a trailer..I grew up with that car and it had a lot of family history. But, the person that bought it is going to restore it from the ground up so it's probably in better hands now than with me..I wasn't that motivated to work on it....unlike the 964!
The ghia loaded up to fly south....my mom was a little sad, although she calls the 964 hers now. haha.
I'll double check with Steve but yes, I'm fairly certain he's doing the full rebuild. I hope he hurries...I'm dying here not being able to drive it! I suppose I could take this time to do some things but it really doesn't need much. The oil leaks aren't serious enough to worry about right now, I just put new Conti DW's on and got the wheels done...I need that distributor! heh.
