Default '91 C2 Difficult 2-3 upshift ideas?

Have just purchased a '91 C2 cab that seems to shift oddly. The clutch has a few thousand miles on it and the car is otherwise very nice. Could this just be an adjustment? I am more familiar with the 993 cars which shift great. Are these cars any different? A G50 Gearbox should shift the same weather it's a 964 5-speed Or a 993 6-speed right? When they were newer I don't remember them being so difficult.

What do your motor mounts look like? How about the roll pin in the clutch pedal box? You said it's a new clutch... did the problem start immediately after the new clutch?

I believe the mechanics between the 993 and 964 clutch and shifter operation should be pretty much the same except for the 993 having the 6th gear.

I would check the universal joint connecting the shift linkage to the transmission first. The. Check the lower shift tube that links to the bottom of the shift lever going frontward to a anchor point. There are 2 plastic bushings that wear. This can give the shift lever a sloppy feeling, it may not be as noiticable with front to rear movement as it is when you try to move left to right ( 2-3 ).

I just visited my father and drove his 964 around for a couple days, it has the same problem. His bushing are totally shot. The shifting was horrible, the other symptom of this problem is that the shifter falls down an inch or two.

I've replaced them on my car, here are some pictures of what's involved.
