Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I have a couple of cup holders in the works now. Hopefully I can post a prototype this week.

And I have a volunteer for the iPhone holder
And a request to add the galaxy s3.

I need replacements for the console switch holders....it would be cool to do some different combinations....I have a c4, but I'm installing a ducktail, so I don't need a spoiler switch. And as far as I can tell, the switch holders seem to suffer from broken tabs pretty much all the time. It would be great to make it a single panel instead of two interlocking panels. Maybe add a USB connection or two. And clearly the snap-in holders need to be reengineered.

I'd love to see some better storage options for my 964, whether thats in the door pockets, the center console, glove box, whatever....seems there is no place to put loose change, a pen, all the little things you want to have handy.

I have my first version of a cup holder. I have incorporated my ashtray mount which uses a slider mount to attach the phone holder. This way you can use the phone holder or the cup holder.
I designed this for a soda can, but am thinking I might need the holders to be a bit bigger for other type of drinks , What do you think ? I don't think I would be drinking a 64 oz big gulp in the Porsche

I am also working on the console cup holder , but that will take more time to fit properly.
also I am questioning the finish of the plastic. 3d printing is not perfectly smooth and the color will not match the other plastic parts in the car. I am thinking I would have to use a Vinyl wrap on it , maybe a carbon fiber pattern .

Sad to say, but I think the best location thus far is this one, and I only allow bottles with a cap in my 964.

Just wondering what you are using for creating your solid models. I am working with Solidworks every day.

The Air-1 was a great idea for a cupholder design which also happens to be NLA. If he really has no intention of making them again, you should design a double-wide version!

I use cubify invent, it has a lot of functionallity and is easy for a beginner to use. (And is only $50)

Interesting design. It would be easy to create . How did it attach?

Any idea why he is not making it?
I do not want to copy an existing design if it is still in use.
It looks like it can still be purchased at pelican

I still like the center console idea. If you max'd the cup holder diameter, and increased the vertical height, you could add one of those tabbed rubber grommets, similar to the holder LPMM linked to. It would add security and adapt to a range of cup and bottle sizes.

Great thread - subscribed!

I've been making up a few bits and pieces for cars over the last year or so. I bought a Makerbot Thingomatic about 2 years ago and only really got it going properly last year (!) I use sketchup and the makerbot prog for printing - skeinforge I think.

I tested the limits making a sunroof ramp piece - not as a long term fix - the quality is not good looking enough. The original pieces break on a regular basis and my replacement has lasted 6 months so far......

Having fun with the 3D printing and working with renin list testers.
Have come up with a couple of new designs.
An angled ashtray mount and a version that uses magnets that work with any phone.

I would like to offer the ashtray mount to as many 911 versions as possible , does anyone know if our ashtray is the same as earlier models?

angeled version

Magnet version that would work with any phone, it uses a metal plate that can be attached to the phone.

There's a thread in the 993 forum about the snaps for the trunk carpet when you have a strut brace. Maybe you could make extenders/new mounts to help the trunk carpet fit better?

Quick question - can you now print directly from google sketch up to a 3d printer?
