It sounds like the ABS unit is fine. Is there any way you can cancel the warning lamp now or when driving? Looks like a ABS controller issue or central informer fault. Worth checking the connectors on both of these units to see if it helps.

have removed the controller for a little look. No obvious corroded terminals and inside is dry and clean. No obvious dry joints or anything that looks burn't . So still stumped. Have to have a think and carry on tomorrow.

Solved , was as steve suggested. plug connection on controller. ended up taking shroud of plug and pressing firmly on all connections. No more warning lamo. Hooray
